Want More Success? Then Keep Learning!
Studies have repeatedly shown that the most successful business owners are those who are constantly learning new ideas. The good news is there are lots of great business books out there. The challenge for most of us is finding the time to actually read them.
That's where NIELSEN Business Coaching Book Summaries come in. This is a regular event where you will pick up the key ideas and themes from a great business book, and get some ideas on how to start applying those to your business right away.
And the best part? You don't even need to read the book! We'll cover the key points, have a great group discussion, and get you on your way. You'll walk out with a several page summary, new knowledge, and introductions to like-minded business owners and professionals who also want to learn and be successful.
Extreme Ownership by Jocko Willink and Leif Babin | Thur Feb 23 | 10:00 - 11:00 am MDT
There are a lot of leadership books out there, but Extreme Ownership is one of the few that immediately resonated with me as something you could start doing today that would make an impact. The ideas in the book are simple, but not always easy. That said if you can create even a shadow of the culture these former U.S. Navy SEALs describe, you'll have an organization that will dramatically outperform anyone out there.
How U.S. Navy SEALs Lead and Win
The essence of this book, the leadership framework the authors have developed, was driven by their experiences as SEAL team leaders in the Battle of Ramadi during the Iraq war. The authors spent a year leading their teams in what turned out to be the most highly contested (and deadly) battlefield for the entire war. In their case, the lessons learned really were life and death. And although the stories and lessons from combat help to illustrate the points, these are ideas and a framework that can apply to any organization.
We'll (try to) cover all 12 principles of Extreme Ownership with a focus on how they apply to a small business environment. If you want to become a better leader, develop a better team, or create a high functioning organization, there are ideas here that will immediately help you. This book (and our discussion) will get you thinking about great ways to upgrade your leadership and culture and improve your business results.
You should read it, but even better than just reading the book is getting a chance to discuss it with other business owners. And that's what Business Book Summaries are all about!
Who Should Attend?
Business, owners, leaders, and professionals who want to learn ways to improve their operations and not fly by the seat of their pants. Also those who have a desire to keep learning but don't have the time nor the inclination to read, or just realize they will get more out of the discussion of the material than only reading it!
